Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!
Today I do an early morning flight so we can look inside most of the full length of the west side of the main factory, and by doing so, we get a good sense of the new mezzanines, robotic assemblers, materials and equipment that is being installed in what used to be open parts of the main factory, particularly over the W main entrance area.
These early morning video clips and images are unique and help us see what the factory looks like in some of the new areas that have been under construction for most of the past year and gives us a good sense of all the operational equipment that has been operating making Cybertruck parts and bodies as well as the structural pack manufacturing areas.
Sadly, we cannot see into the areas where the Model Y lines are being upgraded, not into the areas where the Cybercab production lines are located.

In the video introduction, we discuss one of the major milestone accomplishments of Tesla that took place on Friday, 27 June and that was the first ever fully autonomous drive (with no humans on board or being teleoperated by humans) from the factory all the way to the customers home. Not only was this a new capability to delivery new products being demonstrated, but this shows how far along Full Self Driving capabilities have come and the confidence Tesla has to deliver a new vehicle in this manner.
This is the start of what I expect will be more use of autonomy to delivery cars to customers, most likely from the local sales and service centers located across the United States and eventually in other countries.
I had two guests who came in from Germany (David from Tesla Welt) and Switzerland Peter Hostettler) at the site today along with my nephew Nikolaus. Peter brought along some very nice gifts, including about 100 SpaceX coasters, a very nicely made plastic Polaris Dawn patch, and a Giga Berlin safety vest direct from the factory!
He also had a Boring Company brick and a host of other memorabilia which was really fascinating to see. David runs a large YouTube channel (Tesla Welt) in Germany and this was his first time at Giga Texas, so we flew the drone and talked while I was flying about the site.
Another big event going on related to Tesla here in Austin was the rollout of the Robotaxi service and David, Peter and my nephew were her to get rides, so we went to Austin, and I took each one on multiple trips in the Robotaxi! Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to try out the service and were impressed at how well it did getting us safely, efficiently and without drama from point A to B. We all agreed this was a very strong start by Tesla and showcased how far along FSD has come!
This week is the planned production pause for line upgrades, maintenance, and employee training on the new equipment that will allow simultaneous production of Model Ys and a new, lower cost vehicle, which is expected to debut very soon. The outbound lot is almost completely cleared out and there was virtually no activity at the End of Line facility, as would be expected since much of the staff there were given the week off.
Finally, I discuss the upcoming X Takeover event out in California on the 26th of July. I will be headed out to that event and will be on a panel speaking about SpaceX and possibly some about Giga Texas. I am very much looking forward to heading out there and I hope to see some of you there as well!
