Australian car showrooms are awash with new fully electric mid-size SUV options in 2025, so it's easy to get a little bit confused about which one is the best for you. Two of the big-name brands in segment are Kia and, of course, Tesla. They field the 2025 Kia EV5 and Tesla Model Y, with the former having recently launched, while the latter has just had a very significant update.

So, this expert review from CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis compares the the EV5 and Model Y against one another to find out which one offers family car buyers the best value for money, has the best design inside and out, is the most practical day to day, and drives the best.
