Tesla is struggling to sell the Cybertruck, with around $200 million worth of inventory piling up in the US. Despite production ramping up a year and a half after launch, demand isn't keeping up.
Last year, Tesla cited production delays, the high price of the Foundation Series, and the lack of a $7,500 tax credit as reasons for slow deliveries. This year, those excuses no longer apply—the Cybertruck is simply hard to sell, forcing Tesla to slow down production to prevent further inventory buildup.
The situation worsened in March when Tesla had to put a hold on Cybertruck deliveries due to an upcoming recall over trim pieces falling off. While the production fix was implemented on March 21st, Tesla still needs to repair already-delivered units.
Currently, there are nearly 2,400 Cybertrucks in inventory. With resale values dropping—down 55% year-over-year—Tesla has reportedly stopped accepting Cybertrucks as trade-ins. Some owners looking to return their vehicles are being directed to pursue Lemon Law claims, while used car dealers are hesitant to buy them, offering low prices as they wait for the market to stabilize.
