Say hello to the all-new Smart #5: a big, bold all-electric SUV from the brand known for making tiny city cars. Its chief rival is the globally best-selling Tesla Model Y, but it's also going up against the Skoda Enyaq, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Audi Q4 e-tron, among others.

We think the #5 has more than a fighting chance against them. It's incredibly spacious, filled with technology, handles remarkably well and is capable of charging faster than pretty much any other EV on the road. Plus the Brabus version has nearly 640bhp and can do 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds!

The Smart #5 isn't going to arrive in the UK until close to the end of 2025, so our man Ellis hopped over to sunny Portugal to find out if the Model Y should start sleeping with one eye open...
